The Komondor is a very rare, ancient livestock guarding breed used for centuries on the high plains of Hungary. The breed is amazingly fast and agile and does not need a constant patrol to be effective. Similar in size to other livestock guard dogs, the Komondor is distinguished by its long, white, corded, adult coat which make it look like a mop and allow it to work in harsh climates. This specialized coat is most beneficial in adding a protective shield against predator attacks. Komondors are tenacious and ferocious as guardians and have been known to take on wolves, mountain lions and even grizzly bears in protection of their charges!

Unlike many other livestock guard dogs, the Komondor is also very devoted and affectionate to its owners in addition to its herd. Komondors are playful and loyal to their family and guard children with special care, making them the perfect guard dog for family and farm alike. Komondors are not for everyone though and do require special understanding and ownership. Prospective buyers will be screened for suitability.

Our sire Szenaspusztai Kapitany, a.k.a. “Tokko”, was born of working Hungarian parents and imported to the US in 2005 as a puppy. He is registered with both the Hungarian Stud book and the AKC and is available for stud service. Our breeding stock include registered and unregistered purebred Komondors of both working Hungarian and American show champion and working lines. All of our dogs are used for predator control and are selected for their personality as well bloodlines and working ability.
